About Boxers

BOXER DOG CHARACTERISTICS

Originating in Germany, boxers average 53-71 pounds and live 10-12 years.  Their coat is short, shiny, smooth and tight.  Minimal grooming is required- nail trimming and baths.  Acceptable colors are fawn and brindle with a black mask; with the browns ranging anywhere from mahogany to red.  White must be less than 1/3 of the body.

A stylish companion dog, Boxers are playful, fun, tolerant and loyal.  They are a good-natured dog with a sweet character.  Patient with children, they are emotionally stable, loving and affectionate.  They have a high pain tolerance and are happiest with their families.  These dogs are excellent character judges who are devoutly attached to their people and very protective.  A fearless hearing guard dog, boxers are confidant and friendly, but prefer to make friends on their own terms.

This is a highly trainable and adaptable dog with a high intelligence and is an excellent problem solver.  Boxers have a high drive, high energy and are very enthusiastic.  They are found in numerous service capacities, from hearing guide dogs to military dogs, to traditional service dogs.  They do everything with their whole spirit and whole heart.  As long as they are exercised, Boxers can adjust to most living situations and will stay happy, healthy and out of trouble!  They don’t always do well with other animals, particularly smaller ones and other dogs that are the same gender.
